IF … Shiny

a close encounter
The transport device was just up ahead. It sat, twinkling in the sun, making the eeriest sounds. First it seemed tortured and wailing, then changed to an odd gurgling. We moved in for a closer look and soon found ourselves locking eyes with an alien life form. (Incidentally, we thought it rather curious looking … not a speck of fur on it, or a tail. Still, it wiggled a bit.) Something about it's gaze though, made us feel all sun-shiny on the inside.

  1. Oh they really are little aliens, aren't they? How utterly sweet that you show P & B just peeking in! This could SO be a greeting card!! Yay, Mardi! This is GREAT!

  4. Haha, what a great tale to go with the illustration! And you always come up with some new adorable pose for one or the other (or both) to get into. Beautiful old-fashioned carriage, too! I would like to hang out with these two one day. So much adventure!

  10. This is adorable and perfect for the face of a baby shower card. (anybody you know expecting?)

The circular elements and movement make for a stable yet energetic composition

  13. you're storytelling again.

I'll bet that you could simply show your illustration without the writing and it would still communicate well. You're very good at telling stories visually, even when simple and concise.
This one is a meal in itself. Well balanced and nutritious, and a complete protein to boot. It's held together nicely by the critter's postures as they lace themselves into their mystery... Again Buttercup is the visual star, but this time Peet holds his own too.
~~the 'smiley' carriage is a nice touch.

this is the back cover of one your upcoming books.

  17. Love this...the round composition and the way you've positioned everything do a great of directing the eye into the baby carriage. We can almost see the baby in there!
