okay, yeah, I know, ~NOT funny.

... aside from the expressions (complete with blush for rabbit, and focus for mouse) I'm finding that I really like what's going on in the shadows, as well as the patchwork happening on the floor in the foreground.

I believe your simpler compositions are your forte, they allow you choice tidbits to lay in your details and focus, while never overwhelming the viewer; at the same time never UNDERwhelming either. There's room to breathe and things to do all in one.
    Another strong piece Mardi.
    Really nice work, and storytelling.

  2. So, so funny, and touching at the same time. I love that you took the artistic license to have a little fun with Rabbit. I'm sure I speak for other Rabbit and Mouse fans when I say that I've grown a bit attached to them! I also love the beautiful way they are positioned on the floor creating those light and shadowed areas.

  3. Wonderful. I particularly like the mouse's concentration and the contrast with rabbit's embarrassment and annoyance.

  11. I love how children's illustration thinks outside the square. This is a classic example of creative ideas. Well painted too.

  13. I'm so glad you like my illo! When I got home after a grueling day of work and looked at my blog, I was surprised and delighted to receive so, so many kind words. I'm very happy to know my critters are engaging you. I've drawn this duo for six months now, and find this persistence has helped me develop my skills. And truly, my persistence is fueled by your interest. Many thanks to you.

  15. Mardi, I marvel at your visual story telling with picking the tight moment, point of view, and details to show us. For this piece, I'm enjoying the lightness of the handling of the materials; the freshness of the watercolor and the sparkle of the fallen bunny tail all adding to the story telling.

  20. Yes, Bunny is totally miffed! That tail of his is slowing him down again.
To Greg - a series or book is something to aim for. Consistency is tough! These two continue to morph (and the media is still full of surprises).

The bunny's expression and ears are priceless!

  24. Really amazing Mardi. I love it from Ms. mouses right toes to bunnies irritated ears. I agree with Rick. The "empty" space allows you focus on those fine details. The space is beautifully suggestive. Brilliant work!
